The first step to changing your life is to realize that if you look at life from any other perspective other than everyday life, you will fail. Everyday life is the center of everything in relation to you, while at the same time you are at the center of everyday life. So any changes that take place must take place here and now, otherwise they will get lost in the passage of time and will never be realized.
The second step is to get in touch with your true self. You can change your lifestyle, but you can't change who you really truly are. So if you want to make changes in the way you live, then you must retreat a little, and take a fresh look at things from that new (or familiar) perspective. From there you can start to look at your life objectively and figure out what changes you want to make.
The easiest way to find out what you want is to get in touch with your concept of your ideal self. Look at what bridges the gap between you now and who you want to be. And then start the process of crossing that bridge. You can make changes in perspective, mindset, and even your actions. Perhaps the most important is your mindset. It can determine everything else about your lifestyle, so it's a good place to start. You can alter your mindset by attempting to see things as they are, and accepting truth as you see it, or you can do some research into some religions or philosophies, and you may find something that you really believe in. From there, everything else follows.
As for your actions, there are many levels on which you can adjust them. There are habits, tendencies, hobbies, etcetera. Humans are capable of developing strong habits, and while it might be hard for the first while, don't worry, it can be done. Although, habits may not be the best way to change your lifestyle. You can instead try to look at things with a clear mind, and make decisions as you go. Whichever you choose, always keep in mind the process of moving forward.
I call it a 'process' because you will be moving forward, growing. Humans are just like anything else in nature, we grow, and move forward. In fact, we are a little luckier than most other living things, because we can still move forward even in our last days. So it's in our nature to want to move forward. But it's best if you did so mindfully, always keeping yourself in check. It's very easy to get lost in trying to move forward, and you might find yourself one day wondering why you spent all that time trying to get ahead.
