Looking for a four-door sports car? The Nissan Maxima fits its tagline. This practical car is large enough to get your family from A to B, yet stylish enough to be featured in popular tuner magazines. The Maxima is priced in a range that is accessible to those who can't reach high-end European sports cars, but isn't much above the cost of your typical, boring sedan.
The 2009 Nissan Maxima, like its predecessors, perfectly blends performance and luxury. For those unwilling to settle with a four-cylinder, the Maxima's responsive V6 provides the cure. With a 3.5 liter engine and 290 horsepower even the mild-mannered soccer mom will be tempted to stoplight race.
When it comes to luxury, the 2009 Maxima offers two feature levels. The S model comes nicely equipped with keyless ignition, dual-zone climate control, and many safety features. The SV comes with leather and a Bose stereo system. You can also opt for voice activated navigation, iPod integration, and a rearview camera.
The Nissan Maxima has a very roomy interior. The backseat comfortably fits even long-legged adults. This advantage comes without driving a "boat-like" car. The trunk is also spacious. On the downside the Maxima is more expensive than many other V6, mid-size sedans. Some feel that the driving dynamics are less impressive than some of its competition. Test-drive the car and see for yourself. Since the newer models are a little shorter, I think the handling has improved.
If you're looking for a used car, the Maxima is a tempting option. The car has been tweaked since its introduction; however the changes proved to be minimal. You will find a following for Maximas as far back as the early 1990s. The model actually goes back to 1982. Previously the Maxima were known as the Datsun 810.
Perhaps the best testimony to a car is how many are still around years after their manufacture date. I love my 1999 Nissan Maxima. It has been a faithful companion, needing little more than routine maintenance. Now, with 170,000 miles, it is well broken in and still has a lot to give.
The late model Maximas are very visually appealing, but even the used cars have a sleek, stylish appearance. One that is not familiar with the model would think a used Maxima to be much newer than it is.
You're sure to be loyal to the model once it receives your personal stamp. The Maxima has quite the "tuner" following, making it easy to go beyond window tinting, clear taillights, and a spoiler. Sites like custommaxima.com and activetuning.com offer parts and suggestions to entertain even the most advanced grease monkey.
Whether you are looking for a new or used car, take a look at the Nissan Maxima. If you want a practical family sedan for everyday use, but still want that sports car look, you may have found your ride.
