Exploring the meaning of dreams

While most normal people dream on a regular basis, many of us cannot recall our dreams and some will be adamant they do not dream at all.

When we do recall dreams, we take them for granted; perhaps marvelling at the inventiveness of our sleeping selves, but not really thinking much beyond that. Dreams just happen. They have been around forever. At face value they are confusing to say the least, and often outrightly weird. So, what's the point? Well, if the eyes are the windows of the soul, then dreams are almost certainly the doorway. Through it you can find inspiration, motivation, new direction, even strokes of sheer genius. Many a successful invention, best selling novel, or hit song has had its origins in the dream state. Sift through yours carefully and you could be next.

Many dreams are simply the sorting and filing of impressions and suggestions gathered over the day or days prior. Things we've seen, read about, thought of, and heard of. We tend to carry into our sleep the problems and questions that consume us during our waking hours, whether these be on a practical level or more profound issues.

Each of us has unique perceptions of life, unique experiences, a unique set of values and attitudes. For this reason definitive dream interpretations are seldom accurate and cannot be relied upon. A dream of a black cat will mean different things to different people. Like your fingerprints, your dream imagery is a personal thing.

Essentially our dreams serve two purposes:

It will mull over all of the data you have consciously entered and then the subconscious will add the 'extra-sensory' elements which are vital to clarifying the answer.

If the dream's attempt at communication is ignored by the conscious self, it will become more and more intense and perhaps even frightening until you literally sit up and take notice. If you are a person who has regular recurring dreams and/or nightmares, then you haven't got it yet dummy.

2. The second function of dreams is to assist our evolution as human beings. To stimulate us towards realising our hidden potentials and achieving our highest aspirations both in the world of form and on more esoteric and spiritual levels. Our dreams can catapult us towards happiness, health, wealth, wisdom and renewal and growth. They can spark our
