Dog breed facts: Springer Spaniel

The English springer spaniels get their name from the ability that they have to chase birds high into the air.




The English springer spaniel is a very handsome breed. The English springer spaniel is classed as a medium sized dog. The male English springer spaniel is about fifty-one centimetres high and they usually weigh about twenty-one and a half kilograms. The female English springer spaniel is about fifty-one centimetres high and they usually weigh about nineteen kilograms. The English springer spaniel is a very fast breed and can they can gallop very fast. The coat of the English springer spaniel is relatively long but it is close to the skin and this is what makes it weather resistant. The English springer spaniel can be seen in liver brown and white or black and white.




The English springer spaniel was originally bred in England as a working dog breed. They were originally bred as a working dog to chases and retrieve prey of gamekeepers. English Springer spaniels were originally known as Norfolk spaniels. The English Springer spaniels were first bred in the sixteen hundreds.




The English Springer spaniels are very intelligent and a biddable breed. They tend to be a very intelligent breed and this makes them relatively easy to train and they can even be taught games. Most of the English Springer spaniels enjoy playing games that involve retrieving.




The English springer spaniel has been bred as a working dog and because of this these dogs are also very alert and full of life. The English Springer spaniels would not make good guard dogs because they are very friendly, willing and faithful. These dogs make excellent pets for older children. English Springer spaniels are very active and will happily spend a lot of time everyday just running around retrieving things such as balls or other toys.




The English springer spaniel requires a reasonable amount of grooming however it is very easy to groom this breed and the only really important thing to do is to keep the hair around the ears short. The English springier spaniel enjoys being fed but they are not over demanding with the amount of food that they will eat so as long as they get one or two meals a day they will be absolutely fine. The English springer spaniel does require a fair amount of exercise because they were originally bred to be a working dog and the breed still has many of the characteristics.
