Poetry: Valentine's Day

by Penny B

A Valentine's Day Poem

Just to preface this piece, not all Valentine's Day poems have to be about the love between a boyfriend and girlfriend or between husbands and wives. Although this could be read as such, I wrote it with my precious fourteen year old granddaughter in mind. This is for her.

My Granddaughter, My Valentine

So many years, the time's flown by
And each year you grow more dear
You're in my heart, you're in my thoughts
Your essence is forever near

A smile that brightens up my world
Eyes that sparkle like the golden sun
The love you hold, beyond all that's known
None more precious, my dearest one

The many hours, we've spent together
Talking for hours, throughout the night
Memories shared, forever treasured
You bring the warmest, glowing light

I'm not alone, and of that I know
Each life you touch, they know they're blessed
No one could ever hold a candle
To the beauty of heart that you possess

Like an Angel that walks amongst us
You're like no other, you truly shine
Ever remember, sweet granddaughter dear
You're my most precious Valentine
