From Elvis to Britney, celebrities have been down and out and then up and at 'em faster than you can punch a paparazzi. Baby bellies are lost with a kick-ass personal trainer and a little help from a plastic surgeon to suck the fat off your...you know. Public faux pas are fixed tout de suite with a quick apology tour. And rehab now has a drive-through window.
So who will be back off his or her knees (insert your own Monica Lewinsky joke here) and standing on the red carpet in 2009? My guess would be:
Kevin Federline: Oh, K-Fed. Rap? What were you thinking? But now that he's had a little while to live life on the domestic side, look for another album, and maybe a tour. His "official web site" is under construction and that only means one thing. Comeback! Or, maybe he'll write a children's book about being Mr. Mom. Either one.
Ringo Starr: He vehemently wrote that he would answer no more fan e-mails. There may be "no, no" in his words, but there's "yes, yes" in his bank account. He just watched fellow Beatle Paul McCartney rock it at the Grammys (speaking of comebacks) and want to bet he's a wee bit jealous? And maybe he's a bit tired of dragging the All Starrs through every casino in the Northeast.
Amy Winehouse: Yes, dare to dream. Still pounding bong hits like cigs, she's got a few gigs lined up for 2009, but is still promoting songs from "Back in Black" on her web site. My prediction? She'll ditch her husband and be skidding through that Rehab revolving door before the year is out. But in recovery and free from a misbehaving dude, what's she going to sing about next?
Tom Green: Remember him? Sick comedy? Drew Barrymore's starter husband? He took a breather for a while to fight testicular cancer (which isn't funny), then he went on tour to raise money for charity. Look for him in this year's Celebrity Apprentice. Then look for him to get back into the movies. I swear. Not as much as he does, however.
Michael Jackson: Yes. I'm going out on a limb, but come on, even Pee Wee Herman got back in the ring. After a self-imposed exile in Ireland and Bahrain, he's back in the US and may be itchy for some public attention. Remember how he danced on top of his car for his fans at the courthouse before his sexual abuse trial? This is the desperate, happy dance of someone who lives for adoration. He can't keep remixing "Thriller" forever. Plus, he may also need some buckage to fight off a plagiarism lawsuit, brought by Cameroonian singer Manu Dibango.
Lindsay Lohan. LiLo has been laying low, trading down her Mercedes for a less-showy model, and trying to keep her fights with Samantha out of the tabs. But now that her DUI conviction is history, look for this stunt-casted lovely to shift into high gear, probably toward the end of 2009. Also, she needs something to get the bad taste out of people's mouths from her mostly-panned last movie, "I Know Who Killed Me" and a pretty ugly stint on "Ugly Betty."
Can't wait to see if I'm right!
