Worries, troubles and fears. We all have them and we all understand that tomorrow can bring consequences, failures, but also joy and sometimes our greatest expectations. When we allow our feelings about tomorrow to interfere with what we need to do or enjoy today we often miss out of what today is bringing or showing us. When things of tomorrow are out of our control, all we can do is live for today, do our best for today, give praise for today.
Of course there are always things we can do today to ease our worries about tomorrow. For example, when taxes are due tomorrow and they have us frazzled, it is important to do everything we can about that problem today. If we are behind in laundry or dishes and worry about how much work we'll have tomorrow, taking on some of the work today can leave us with less worry when we close our eyes to sleep and transition into tomorrow.
However, there are some things that are just far out of our reach and, therefore, control. For those military families, there is not always a for-sure answer as to when our loved ones will return home. Since when they come home is out of our control, what is the point in worrying. You will gain far more by praying and filling yourself with hope that they WILL return. Take a few moments to do this and then turn your mind toward the duties and joys of today.
Today, the present time you are in right now, needs you. You have a purpose for this day in time. If you're a mom you have a challenge to meet with your children. If you are a friend you have some meetings or talking on the phone to do with someone who depends on and needs you. Even if you feel that tomorrow will bring despair, you have a responsibility to those around you to live in the now, live in the present - work for today.
When you feel down today about the possibilities of tomorrow, just remember that not everyone got to see today. Not everyone saw the sunshine or the rain. Not everyone got to hold a hand or receive a hug. You did! You are living and are doing things that the dead or dying are unable to do. When you feel you've lost motivation, remind yourself that you are not here forever. Your time on earth is limited as are your deeds upon it. No matter what you believe, no matter what your religion, faith or spirituality you most likely believe you were created for a purpose. Therefore, do your best today. Thank the Maker for today and, above all, live for today!
