Luxurious hair can be a crowning glory for us, so when it begins to disappear we are naturally worried. Hair loss is a genuine cause of anxiety, perhaps more so for women than men and naturally, people seek ways to find a cure for the condition. Hair loss comes in varying degrees from thinning hair to full-blown Alopecia. Your receding hairline, signs of baldness and thinning hair might prompt you to ask yourself 'Can my doctor stop hair loss?' Perhaps you are a woman suffering from some form of Alopecia. When the hair loss results from a medical condition, the likelihood is that your doctor will be able to diagnose this and offer some kind of possible solution. Hair loss affects people in different ways and with different degrees of seriousness, so medical advice should be a first step.

Estrogen for example, is a hormone that prevents hair loss. Estrogen levels drop as women grow old causing hair loss. The imbalance in the dihydrotestosterone hormone leads to thinning of hair. Medicines like water pills, contraceptive pills, blood pressure control medicines and skin or anti fungal medications also produce hair loss as side effects. Thyroid disorders and lack of nutrition due to ill health also manifest as hair loss. Pregnancy and child birth, high stress and mental tension levels can lead to hair loss.

Going to specialists enables accurate diagnosis of the specific cause of your hair loss condition. Many laboratory tests will be required to find out what is causing the problem and help identify possible remedies. If hormonal imbalances and thyroid problems are identified by the blood tests then you should approach an endocrinologist. These doctors help you restore balance to your endocrine system. If skin diseases are leading to the hair loss, a dermatologist is the ideal doctor to consult.

Consulting a gynecologist will also help if your hair loss is related to gynecological disorders. Consult a dietitian to help you set out a balanced nutrition rich, low calorie diet if poor diet is the troublemaker. You must visit the doctor for advice before taking anything by way of medication to prevent or cure hair loss. Hair loss can cause great emotional turmoil for a woman who has always seen her hair as a crowning glory. The danger is that she will resort to things that are potentially harmful in order to slow down the process. This is why it is crucial to consult your doctor for advice and possibly for medical testing.

A doctor can help you stop hair loss by diagnosing causes of your particular condition of hair loss and reversing the situation by giving you appropriate treatment. In some instances of course, the condition may be severe and irreversible. At least a visit to your doctor should help you identify how serious the problem is in your case.
