Chicana/Latina Foundation Scholarship Fund was designed to help Latino women (in the surrounding Bay Area counties) complete their college education. Preference is given to students who have lived in the area for at least two years prior to applying for the scholarship. The scholarship assists both undergraduate and graduate students. The annual award is $1,500.

It is critical that leadership and community service involvement be a part of the students' portfolio. If accepted to the program, students must commit to at least five hours of volunteer time to help support the organization.

* The Minerva Scholarship Program.

First Lady Maria Shriver of California hosts a very successful annual event that she created in 1994. The event is called The Women's Conference. Each year at the conference, ten extraordinary female students who held long-term commitments to public service, are awarded scholarships of $2,500.

The program focuses on assisting women in obtaining a college degree. The women must be California residents who are either U.S. citizens, or permanent residents.

High schools students in their final year can apply if they plan to attend a two or four-year college or university on a full-time basis. Undergrads currently enrolled in a California college are also eligible for the scholarship. A minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 is required.

The twist on this program is a five-hundred-and-fifty word essay contest that participating applicants are invited to write. In the essay, students' should focus on their educational, vocational, or career goals.

A judging team oversees and reviews the essays and later ranks the essays according to grammar, style, organization, and content. Winners are determined after the essays are scored.

Applicants must reside in the Orange County/Mensa area to be considered. They must also be enrolled full-time in a degree program one year after the effective application date. Awards range from $300 to $1,000.
