Tips on choosing the right university

ticket on the Greyhound is a lot cheaper than a cross country flight. One benefit of the technology revolution is that phone calls are relatively cheap, unless you are calling to ask for money. Room and board and lifestyle need to be factored into your choice of college wherever you go. Hopefully your classmates will be from a similar economic background but it is possible that you may be applying to a school where the students drive better cars than the faculty. Will you be able to adjust if your roomie is from a comparatively wealthy family.

Whether you like it or not a four year degree is not that much different from going to the local junior college. Let's face it, at the end of the journey you will want and need a job to justify studying, taking tests, and passing tests to get your degree. This is also the point where you get some immediate feedback on the decisions you have made the previous two or four years. Hopefully, you will not need to change your major or realize that teaching sucks, or that a degree in fine arts, music, or football needs to be paid for by working in a restaurant. If you have a calling it will be found. It just may take a while.

If you have thought it out; your chosen school will bring out your best and you will be on your way to living a rich and full life that will justify the time and energy spent at school.

When you choose a college or university there are very few guarantees. Most people will change their career regularly in their first years of employment and what you think you like now may be entirely different from what you will be doing when you graduate. The speed of change may require you to change careers more often than in previous generations so you should be prepared to choose life long learning as a way of living and make sure your career is on the right track regardless of whether you started at the local junior college or a fancy private school. College can be the best years of your life, make the most of them.
