"I can see it coming." Mother was known for making this statement. Don't get me wrong. She was brought up in a fine Christian home but, these words always me wonder how she knew the outcome of a situation. Of course, she was older and wiser than us, but, somehow, I couldn't put much stock in that statement because there was always the 'live for today, for tomorrow never comes' that counterpointed it.
The moment is now and one should exercise his concentration and dedication to that time so he can put forth his absolute best.
A statement from the wonderful movie and book written by Alice Walker is one of the most loveable I've ever read. It says, "It makes God angry if the you pass the color purple and pay it no attention." Not so much in those exact words, but, similar. In other words, take your time, enjoy the things that God has given you, today- that you don't have to rush through life without enjoyment of any kind, worrying about tomorrow.
We have pink roses by the front door that my daughter-in-law planted some years back. She cares for them like they were a child but I rarely see her admiring them. She does it so others can enjoy the work she has put forth. In the fall, she will trim the bushes back, making them bare and you think, 'those will never bloom again." But, come spring, which here, is approximately two months later, big, beautiful flowers burst out, it seems, over night and I think, that is God's way of telling her 'thank you for doing such a great job.' It's just that she enjoys caring for the plants and has faith they will bloom again and again with not a fret. Did He mean the color pink, also?
What about tomorrow? Tomorrow here, will be Thursday. We have no plans, now, so there won't be hustling around, packing or whatever it may require. My trip to see my family has been postponed several times because something told me it wasn't the right time. But, who knows? Impromptu trips are more fun and somehow, you just know when the time is right.
At my late age, I've put myself in God's hands. For years, the children were growing up, going to school, dance, little league, etc. Now, the responsibility is not mine and I so missed those days. They are adults now with families and I have the enjoyment of waking my grandchildren and seeing them off every morning since I live with my son and his wife. It is as if God has given me a second life in that, while raising my children, it was, indeed, a pleasure. Did I ever wonder this would happen?
Oh, my grandchildren would awake on their own, but I like to think I'm needed and do, indeed, love mornings. I don't wonder what is going to happen when they leave home. Certainly, my son and daughter-in-law have been kind enough to have let me live with them this long but, surely, when they retire, they will want to be alone and I know there is another place for me somewhere.
No one knows where they will be from one day to the next. Forty years ago my husband and I were five thousand miles from our families, he being in the military. We vowed we'd never leave our state again. He is dead now and I am two thousand miles away from home. Would I have ever dreamed that? Never in a million years.
Life is so filled with uncertainities and everything is so temporary. Just put yourself in God's hands. He knows what He wants to happen tomorrow and days to come and there is no changing it. Prayer helps. You may not get what you ask for, but, it will be a lot easier than what you did ask for and it will be what God chose for you.
