Unique and Popular names for the family dog

Many pet owners face the responsibility of owning, caring, and training their new addition to the family. The most joyous challenge seems to be the actual naming of their new loved one. When choosing puppy names, it is important to acknowledge that the male dog names or female dog names chosen will be used through adulthood as well. Popular dog names as well as unique names can be researched if needed to collaborate ideas on choosing a name.

Many pet owners look at this task as seriously as naming a child. In a way it is the procedure for inducting a new family member regardless of the members lack of diapers or giggles. Each dog has its own personality and the naming in itself, lets pet owners express this through their choice of name. Current online research states that the most popular name in North America for a dog is Sam, for boy dog names and Samantha or Sammie, for girl dog names.

Also on the list of names for males as most popular are Max, Jake, Buddy, Rocky, Buster, Casey, Duke and Charlie. Among the list for the most popular names for female dogs are Princess, Sasha, Lady, Missy, Maggie, Dakota and Sadie. Searching among the leading research online also shows that currently the unique names are ones such as Quixote, Van Gogh, Mai tai, Professor, Daquiri, Drummer, Fishbone, Sinclair or even Yahoo or Googles.

As technology has provided more and more forums for pet owners to research both medications and advice, pet owners should take advantage of sites offering name databases. Searches including key words such as 'male dog names' and 'female dog name's are productive to that approach. Databases that include baby names are also another alternative when researching online.

Another factor some pet owners agree on is as mentioned before personality. For those that enjoy the uniqueness of a name, some may be chosen through activities both the owner and pet enjoy. For example if the dog seems to enjoy traveling with you and you are a owner of a ford pickup, you may enjoy picking a name like 'Explorer'. Some owners that enjoy movies may also opt for a name that follows in their interests such as something unique like 'Java' as in 'Java the pup' or 'Pooch Skywalker'.

Depending on the owner's preferences and the size of the family, it may be beneficial to ask children or spouses to include their input and become part of the task. Children usually are known to opt for the popular names such as Midnight, Ruffles, Peppermint, or Scout. Take into account names are not judged by the size of the paw. Even small lovable dogs can be playfully named Bruno, Killer, and Rocky. With the advantage of researching online, using baby name books, and including spouses or children for additional opinions ,the task of choosing a name will become a more enjoyable and personal experience.
