Finding a short story competition

Finding a short story completion is the easy part, finding one that actually pays decent is another thing all together. As a freelance writer who writes short stories for contests, I have run the gambit of bogus short story contests. I found some of the good sites as well, sites that actually pay if you win one of their contests.

If you are a person who writes short stories with the hope of entering it into a contest, you might be wondering how to find the perfect place to enter. I am going to shed some light here, in hopes that I can save you time and money by entering the right type of contests.

I searched on the internet using the term writing contest and got back millions of hits, thinking I hit the jackpot I entered every one I could. I knew enough to enter the right type of contest as far as genre goes, but it was separating the frauds from the honest contests, which got me.

Luckily, before I had spent more money than I could afford I happened to stumble on a writing site that had tons of honest short story contests on it. The people were very friendly so I decided to stay and become part of the Accentuate Writer's forum.

Not only does this Accentuate Writer's forum have tons of contests to enter, both free and for all types of fees, it has a listing of the writing contests to avoid. The board owner puts a lot of time and effort into finding genuine short story contests for us to enter, so we do not fall into the traps of bogus short story contests.

There is a section within the Accentuate Writer's forum for winners of these short story contests to announce their success. This in turn gets more people to enter the contests because we know it is legitimate. The forum itself even hosts a short story contest that the forum owner has judged by publishers and others in the writing community.

You can search the internet like I did and enter bogus contests, or you can visit the Accentuate Writer's forum and find short story contests for every type of genre. There are plenty of contests to enter and that includes both fee based as well as free short story contests.

You do not need to be members of the Accentuate Writers forum for most of the writing contests but you do for the boards very own short story contest, which costs five dollars to enter with a payout of $300.00. Stop by today and check out all the honesty to goodness short story contests on the board, and who knows perhaps you can win with that short story.
