Rising food prices are indeed a global concern and there is more than one cause for this crisis. Radical weather patterns are making it extremely difficult for crops to grow and Global economy is driving food prices up.
In Egypt, the price of oil and bread has risen close to thirty percent. In Haiti, a small bowl of corn grits is considered a day's food for many. The population of China and India is quickly growing along with food demand. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, last year's rise in food prices was the highest since 1990 and is expected to rise by the same amount this year.
Thirty-seven countries are currently experiencing a food crisis. The United Nation's world food program will be feeding eighty-nine million hungry people this year. With severe drought igniting fires in Australia and massive flooding in Argentina, milk and butter prices are expected to soar.
How bad will it get?
In the bible, Jesus Christ tells of a time when our planet will be filled with unrest. Revelation, which elaborates further on this future time, says a single loaf of bread could cost a day's wage. Jesus said there would be disease and earthquakes in different places. The apostle Paul said people will be, self-centered, liars, proud, immoral, and disrespectful. Men and women will leave their natural affection, turning to each other, and people will do anything for money.
Does this sound familiar? It should. It perfectly describes the times in which we are living. There is war and threat of war in more places around the world than ever. Food is scarce and it's getting worse. Diseases for which there is no cure are increasing each year. The H1N1 virus that broke out in 2009 spread around the world before countries had a chance to close its borders.
The 2008 earthquake that hit China killed more than a hundred thousand people. The underwater earthquake that produced the killer tsunamis which devastated an entire region could happen to any coastal area.
"And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass... and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places." (Matt.24)
Jesus said that when ALL these things begin to happen we should pay attention because these events could be a prelude to tribulation unlike the world has ever seen.
Global economy is failing rapidly with no signs of improvement in the near or even distant future. Resources are dwindling causing food shortages and it's only a matter of time before America really begins to feel the impact.
What should we do?
Turn to God and His word- the Holy Bible. The scriptures are God's instructions for us. They tell us about Him and about salvation through Jesus Christ. "... there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." (Acts 4:11) Your soul will have eternal life and, "there shall not an hair of your head perish." (Luke 21:18)
Rising food prices are indeed a global crisis, along with rising sea levels, drought, flood, disease, nuclear war, natural disaster, and everything else associated with End Times prophecies.
