With all of the things in today's society that focus our attention on the long-term, it seems that it is more important now than ever before to start paying attention on what is happening today.
So much of our time is invested in matters that won't see fruition until the future. So doesn't it seem that in the meantime one should strive to focus on the now? By consciously making the effort to live in the now, it becomes so much simpler to de-stress and begin to enjoy life. Instead of worrying about bills that haven't arrived yet, about work and school projects that aren't due yet, try slowing down and spending time doing what you like to do best. Even a space of time as little as an hour spent doing what you want to do can have an amazing effect on how you cope with the rest of the week.
A conscious effort to relax and unwind is the best thing you can do when there is nothing else you can do at the moment. Stressing and worrying about the problem is just going to tense you up, and make you more prone to errors in judgement and how you handle situations. So take a moment, let your mind slip into the eternal 'now', and relax.
By consciously encouraging yourself to slow down and focus on the 'now', you'll begin to take in so much more of what is happening around you. You'll start to enjoy life more, for the simple reason that you'll be living to your full potential. Your heart and soul won't be cluttered with the problems of tomorrow, especially when there is nothing that can be done about them today.
If you begin to take the time to relax, it becomes so much simpler to enjoy the present. You'll find yourself taking more joy in the things you do, and it won't be long until this affects the entire way your life flows, from your family and friends, and to your work. You won't have to stress as much, you won't have to worry about tomorrow so much because you will realize that tomorrow never comes. And if tomorrow never comes, all you can do is live in the 'today'.
