Helium is a massive collection of articles from writers around the world, many of such are drawn in by the thought of money. However there are some of us writers here at Helium that freelance as a hobby. Ever since Helium was introduced there have been questions to whether or not Helium is a blog.
However the short answer to that question is no, Helium is not a blog. The fact of the matter is that Helium is more like Wikipedia or other encyclopedia collections rather then a blog. Both styles of writing are strikingly similar to the naked eye but are especially obvious when so many people contribute to it.
Blogs
The main difference between Helium article writing and blogs is that one of them is meant to express personal feelings and experiences with and the other is simply for sharing knowledge. Needless to say the one that is meant for sharing knowledge is article writing, however there are instances where Helium articles require personal experiences.
Need another difference between blogging and Helium articles? Typically blogs look very different from the normal Helium articles, since blogs are personalized mini-websites. Interestingly enough the definition of a blog is an on-line journal that others can read, which is far from Helium articles.
If anything blogs are just another form of website design, because websites are created just for blogs and typically have a different style then anything else on the Internet. Companies like WordPress offer free blogs to anyone who signs up, and they're only one of the many that do.
Helium
Needless to say Helium is very unique when it comes to the Web 2.0 experience. For instance its not an encyclopedia totally like Wikipedia, because it has everyone from first time writers to experienced ones writing on a subject. Helium itself is all about sharing knowledge with others, and it has become a place for users to practice their writing skills.
However the new Zone feature of Helium does have some attributes that make it similar to a blog, as users can write about whatever the wish. Users should expect for Helium's Zone service to change considerately before its official release, so those blog like features may be taken out.
Overall Helium is nothing like a blog due to the differences in writing styles and web design. Helium is a huge collection of articles written by different experience levels of writers, and blogs are just on-line journals even if some people do use them to tell the news or other sell products.
