It is very important that parents and care givers of kids should know how to keep the child's self esteem strong and in tact. There are many ways in which adults can help the child build self esteem. Dealing with kids is a hard work but rewarding when you see the result of your efforts. When the kid grow with strong self esteem, it seems like a big success. Here are some tips I find effective in building and keeping your child's self esteem.
APPRECIATION- When you will not fail to appreciate the child in every thing he does though his work is not that excellent all the time, he would be inspired and not feel bad of himself. Appreciation can do wonders in the achievement of every individual, even the adults need to be appreciated. It is a nice feeling to be appreciated and this make ones morale high. It will build self confidence. When a child is criticized by adults when things are not perfectly done by him, this will make him disappointed and hurt his self esteem. He will be afraid to try and improve himself afraid to be criticized again but if he is appreciated even in small accomplishment, it will keep his self esteem high.
GIVE BIG ROOM FOR CONSIDERATION- consideration when a kid made mistake would also help him improve. What I mean here is that, never blamed a child when he made mistake. Let him understand that all are bound to make mistake and that it is just alright to be made mistake sometimes. He can still improve and do better next time. It is not the end of the world when somebody made wrong. Let him understand that there are ways to correct mistakes. That's what the parents or any other adults should do instead of scolding the child when he made mistake.
ACCEPTANCE- This is very important thing to remember that whatever defects the child has, physically, mentally, emotionall y or whatever it is, he is still love and accepted as he is by his parents and other adults and peers around him. It is very comforting when we are accepted for whoever we are. Even we, adults would feel good when we are accepted by our loved ones whoever we are? how much more for the kids? This would really help to keep the child's self esteem intact.
UNCONDITIONAL LOVE- If the child feel that he is loved by his family and friends unconditionally whether he will be good or bad, it will help very much to build up his self esteem. It will give him confidence that no matter what, his family and friends loved him unconditionally. This will make him realize that he is important. This is the most important factor that would keep the child's self esteem high.
So, everything that a child deals everyday, can contribute to the development of his self esteem much more on how to keep them intact. Parents, friends and other adults are the contributing factors for the development of the child's self esteem.
