Are there safe ingredients in cleaning products?
Companies are in a position to look after the well being of our children and impact a green awareness for the consumers. I have to admit, I had never thought about the harsh ingredients from the cleaning products that I purchased from the supermarkets, until I had children of my own.
My concern for the well being of my children is what initiated me to investigate the safety of the cleaning supplies that I used. Every chemical consisted of Chlorine bleach, ammonia, and formaldehyde. All of these chemicals are harsh and can irritate the respiratory system. Last year my oldest daughter reached an age where I could feel comfortable with her helping me clean the house by using household products. Once I created a chore chart, I began searching on line for companies that make the safest cleaning products.
Here are two companies that I have found to be spectacular. I was really impressed by the effectiveness, the smell, and overall safety of each product.
Melaleuca the Wellness Company, offers Melaleuca toothpaste, mouthwash, dental care products, soaps, bath oils, and shampoos all which are non-toxic, and environmentally friendly. The company also carries an Eco-sense product line. This product line is safer for your home, and healthy for the environment.
The Melaleuca Wellness Company provides a safety data sheet that indicates the overall hazard, health hazard, flammability, and reactivity. Each product describes how safe a cleaning product is, for example, OSHA Regulatory Status has confirmed that Sol-U-Guard Botanical, made by Melaleuca, Inc is NOT hazardous within the meaning of the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard. The potential health effects for eyes, skin, ingestion, medical conditions, or interactions with other chemical known to enhance toxicity are unknown. This means their have been no reports indicating any health hazards.
The ingredient in Sol-U-Guard contains Thyme oil. Sol-U-Guard is one of the many products that contain a description of the safety from this product. Sol-U-Guard, and other Eco-sense products are one of the safest cleaning supplies made by Melaleuca. The products are safe enough for children to be around, and they are non-toxic, and made by plant extracts. Eco-sense is a sensible, safe product that you can feel at ease using.
Holy Cow is another Eco-friendly product, promoted by the Holy Cow company. Holy Cow is an all purpose cleaner that does not contain chlorine bleach, ammonia, or formaldehyde. The products do contain a blend of soaps(surfactants, emulsifiers, and lifters) which were developed from organic and natural resources.
It is obvious that the consumers are beginning to think about the harmful effects from cleaning supplies before they promote a product line. Melaleuca and Holy Cow are the only two mentioned, but there are other companies who support a line of green, safe, and eco-friendly cleaning products.
