My answer to this question is in two parts, Was there a worldwide flood? Can we experience one again? A world wide flood to the everyday person sounds absurd and unbelievable. It is hard for us to believe something that bears no evidence. We have become a society who believes only what they see, not what we are told. With that being said, I must remind everyone of Genesis 7:11.
In this particular note of the Bible it states "In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second monthon that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened." When reading this, one immediately believes that Noah built his ark and took two of every animal aboard his ship and rescued the "good" of the planet.
I have to believe that there may not have been a flood. In the context of flood, I mean water. Maybe there wasn't any water pouring out of the flood gates. Maybe it was some other form of global reconstruction. I feel as though, our people became an example of where we stem our seven deadly sins. Greed, gluttony, lust, sloth, pride, envy and wrath. At the time of this great flood, the world was in shambles. There was no fixing them and there were no real aspirations to be helped by the people.
After saying that, I must admit that I do believe that history repeats itself. I don't think that on the seventeenth day of the second month there will be a man building a boat the size of the Indian Ocean, I do however believe that we are being taught a great lesson. I feel as though the economic hardship that the United States is witnessing, is bringing us back to basics. You may point your finger at many people at fault. I believe this is evident of a master plan that God has in store for the greedy, spiteful and horrible people in this country. It is hard to look at an economy failing as a blessing, but perhaps it is disguised. Maybe instead of jumping ship to save our lives, we will be forced to be back to basics.
We are in a generation where everyone has become very closeminded and the seperation between church and state is growing rapidly. If you believe that writings of the Bible and the teachings of the religious leaders, it is easy to understand that the higher power is capable of reconstructing his creation. If He feels that we are living in mortal sin, he will create some type of "flood" as an attempt to help us realize what is most important in life.
