- White Maltesers -
I love Maltesers. I think the combination of textures is just great and the fact that they are made in a sphere shape makes them fun to eat. In production since 1936 Maltesers are still made today in the same factory in Slough where it started all those years ago. Their idea was to use the goodness of malted milk and chocolate to bring the consumer a great taste with good ingredients and all wrapped up in a fun ball shape.
Maltesers come in all sorts of sizes and packaging with several great variations to flavour. I like the box you can buy at the cinema; it somehow seems more fun to eat them from the box as the Maltesers roll around inside. There is even a large ball shaped container now, though I haven't come across this yet and Mars advertise this as 'Just for fun'.
I think their huge success with this product lies in the shape and size of the chocolates that Maltesers are presented in, apart from the great taste and texture of the product. A ball shape appeals to our sense of fun and being bite sized makes them easy to pop and eat.
-The Product-
Originally brought out as a limited winter edition about five years ago, I suppose as they resemble a snowball. The white chocolate Malteser has now become a firm favourite. The product comes in a cream and red packet which is a thick quality with a high sheen to it. The words 'White Maltesers' are slashed across the front of the packet in bold white lettering. Floating across the packaging are the weightless white spheres, with one cut in half so that you can view the honeycomb centre of the Malteser. The weight of the small packet is 37g and the larger family pack is 165g.
-White Maltesers-
The 'White Maltesers' are an interesting variation to the milk chocolate variety and you can really taste the malt much more with the white chocolate covering. I love the flavour of malt anyway and it comes through very strongly here. The actual balls are more uneven in individual shape and size to that of the original Maltesers and the coating of white chocolate is thicker than the milk chocolate variety and absolutely gorgeous. Though be warned, it is quite sweet.
What I like about Maltesers is the soft chocolate combining with the crisp, crunch texture of the honeycombed centre of the product. These white Maltesers really are delicious and good to know that they are also suitable for vegetarians.

-Summary-
I thought the white variety of the Malteser was lovely. The malt flavour was quite strong so if you are not keen on the taste of malt, these will not be for you. But they are quite delicious and the white chocolate really compliments the crisp malt honeycomb centre well. I liked the richness of flavour of the white chocolate and I found these little white balls very filling. Sweet and delicious and a very tasty bite sized treat. -
