With the evolution of the internet into a vast social and business medium comes a unique opportunity for writers to make money by creating content on the web.
Numerous websites have launched that offer small payments to members for each blog or article they write. Over time, each article continues to accrue money, and combined with other articles the member has written, a steady stream of revenue is created.
In short, it's called residual (passive) income. Earning this type of income is advantageous because the money keeps coming in. Granted it takes time, persistence, and a lot of patience to build up enough content to make a substantial amount of money per month; but it can be done.
This article describes how to earn long-term residual income by writing content on the web. It also highlights some writing sites offering to pay members for their content.
Earning Residual Income Through Revenue Sharing
Revenue sharing is an advantageous way to make money. Over time, revenue sharing creates what is called residual or passive income. Essentially it means the writer submits a number of articles or other content and each article earns the writer a certain amount of money per day.
As an example, the writer submits 100 articles on a content website, each accruing one cent per day. That equals $1.00 per day, or $30.00 per month. While that number may seem low, let's say the writer has submitted 400 articles. That equals $4.00 per day, or $120.00 per month. Furthermore, some articles may make more money than others.
Writers won't see instant wealth overnight. This process takes a lot of hard work and dedication, knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO), and an aptitude for writing quality content for the web. But with an investment in time spent daily writing content, the writer will eventually see an increasing amount of money every month.
Revenue Sharing Websites
In the "fun" category are eHow and Squidoo. Both are fun content websites where writers develop step-by-step instructional "how-to" articles and informative topical web pages called "lenses" (respectively).
Writers who are more serious about developing a career in freelance writing should consider developing content for Helium, Associated Content, and Suite101.
Writers who want to make money earning residual income through the development of web-based content have a growing list of paid content websites to choose from. Just keep in mind that the money won't come all at once; rather, it flows in a little at a time and continues to build over the long term.
