The blueberry is a native plant of North America. It is rarely seen in Europe. There are about thirty different species of the fruit and these species can be found in various areas of the country. This fruit played a big role in the diet of native Americans in their traditional dishes. They were not widely used by colonists until later due to the tartness of the fruit.

Keep the berries dry and away from water unless washing them to consume. The water will increase the decay of the fruit. Wash the berries when ready to consume and keep unused portions dry in the fridge. As the fruit ripens, the antioxidant levels will increase.
