PORTRAIT OF ARTHURS WIFE
Chapter One-The McDougal Mansion
The presence of Arthur McDougal's mansion was getting the best of Demetrius (Damon) Kane who had been observing it through the steel bars of the huge black gate. It's one of those mansions where you could hardly even see it from the main entrance. The distance between the main gate and the front door of the mansion was so overwhelming that Damon was using his thumb to measure the front door and noticed that it was the same size.
As Damon was done measuring the door with his thumb, his eyes were suddenly drawn to the distinctive decor of the doorbell. Without any hesitation, he decided to press down on the doorbell, which was located to the right of the gate, but heard no sound. After politely waiting a few moments, he pressed down on the doorbell once again and finally heard the sound of the doorbell ring, which sounded just like the chimes from a grandfather clock.
Being a promising young amateur artist, Demetrius had been envious of his teacher and mentor Arthur McDougal with the hopes that in the future, he himself may be a rich and successful artist as Mr. McDougal was. It had been about six months since Mr. McDougal selflessly began devoting his valuable time to teach Demetrius Kane his painting techniques and had been expecting Damon to attend one of his art lessons this afternoon.
A few moments later, a jingling sound, which came from the mansion captured Damon's attention. He noticed that a man in a black suit was slowly walking towards the main gate. He noticed that the man was swinging a bunch of keys back and forth with his right hand, which made the noise that Damon heard all the way from the gate. As the man was approaching, Damon recalled that this man was Mr. McDougal's caretaker.
Mr. Halsey, the caretaker, who was not fond of Mr. Kane, slowly opened the heavy gate to allow him into the complex after he announced to Mr. McDougal that a guest was about to enter the mansion.
"Hello Damon." Mr. Halsey said as he rolled his eyes in despair.
"Good afternoon Mr. Halsey." Damon cunningly replied as he quickly walked through the gate.
After allowing Damon through the gate, leading the way, Mr. Halsey guided him along the path of flat gray stepping stones, which would lead them to the main entrance of the mansion. The door was about fifty yards away from the gate. It felt much longer than that to Damon during his journey to the mansion. He felt anxious to get inside of the mansion and see Arthur McDougal's
