How to keep in touch with old friends

It used to be keeping in touch with friends resulted in long distance telephone bills or keeping up with letter writing. Due to the expense and time required for these methods of keeping in touch, it was not uncommon for people to eventually lose touch with old friends over the course of time.

Today that has all changed. Technology has integrated into society with full force and as a result there are many terrific ways to maintain friendships and keep in regular touch. As innovation continues to grow, despite the large distances between people, you can pretty much communicate every day if you'd like with friends living all over the world.

Here are a few of the top ways to keep in touch with old friends:

• Internet

The birth of the Internet has offered huge opportunities to keep in touch with old friends. You can maintain contact through instant messenger programs and e-mail which don't cost a cent outside of basic connection costs which you are likely paying for anyway.

Another incredible capability of the Internet is the ability to use search engines. No longer do you have to call the expensive phone company's information service to look for a number; this option was sketchy at best if you didn't have an idea of where your friend lived.

Today you can access any telephone book online to look up telephone numbers. Additionally search engines are pretty powerful in terms of locating old friends you want to re-establish contact with.

Additionally Skyppe is becoming extremely popular as an option to make long distance calls through use of your Internet connection.

• Social Networking Websites

Another exciting way to keep in touch with your old buddies is to utilize social network websites such as Facebook, Classmates, Twitter and MySpace to name a few. You can easily read up on old friends and leave messages from each other. A great aspect of social networking is you can also easily find old friends through the web you'd long ago lost touch with.

How great is it you can find that long lost pal you lost touch with decades ago? Amazing, but every day more and more people are experiencing this feeling as the popularity of social network sites continues to expand. If you join one of these sites, there is a high probability some of those long missed friends are a part of the network and would be ecstatic to hear from you.

Best part is that the powerful social networking searches are programmed to do most of the work for you.
