People uses blog mostly because blog is easy to manage, multi users, and uses web 2.0 technology. They love it because they can update the content when ever they want to. And one more: blog is cheaper than website portal. Trust me!

First: Efficient.

Blog is more efficient for promoting your work, portfolios, and corporation. With blog you can easily manage your website's content. And the most important is, with your blog you can more interact to the readers of your blog and your consumer.

Last month I attended to WordCamp Indonesia 2009 in Jakarta - Indonesia. WordCamp is an annual conference for WordPress Enthusiast. There were so many bloggers attended, also web developers, online marketers, CEO's of corporation which uses blog for promoting their work. One of the topic they presented was about Corporate Blogging.

I really interested to this topic, even I was only a personal blogger, instead a CEO of a corporation. The topic speaker believes that blog is the best online way for promoting work and corporation. Blog is not only for personal use. Corporation needs it. Why? Because blog is more interactive than a web portal. You can share thought, ideas, and anything, then you can easily get responses from readers.

Web portal is an communicative way. It is good. But today what we need is not only communication. We need more interaction. And blog is more interactive than website portal.

Second: web standard and professional look.

People uses website portal for promoting their work because they think website portal's layout and user interface is more professional than a blog. They are wrong!

We can make a more professional and good looking user interface for our blog, because mostly it uses standard xhtml and css for layout theme, and php as core engine. For Example, I am using WordPress for my blog. And it has a very good looking user interface. And I can set up an standard static article in the front page, just like a website. I can have unlimited pages with different design style each page.

Third: large developers, and low cost.

One more thing, usually blog has a large developers in the whole world, because mostly blog engine (CMS) is an opensource and licensed under GNU public licence. You can get it freely in internet. You just need a domain name and enough hosting space. That's all.

So I think blog is better than website portal for promoting work, portfolios, and corporation.
