Storing your coffee right is what keeps your coffee tasting fresh and full flavor. Coffee drinkers who want the perfect flavor use whole coffee beans and grind their coffee just before brewing. Coffee grinding your beans just before you are ready to brew it improves the taste of the coffee. It releases the oils and aromas of the beans immediately which adds to the freshness and taste of your coffee.
Green Beans ( Unroasted)
The length of time green beans can be stored is on how you store them. The consisting on the temperature and humidity is 2 of the key factors on storing the best way to store your coffee.
Humidity: 50 55%
Temperature: 22 degrees centigrade (72 degrees Fahrenheit)
Green Beans stored in a stable environment a t the above mentioned should be used within 2 years of storing. Store the green beans in a jute sack or paper bag. Do not store in plastic or airtight containers as green beans need to breath.
The 3 most important factors to storing green beans:
Humidity
Temperature
Air Circulation
With the right humidity, temperature and air circulation in a dry storage area out of strong sunlight your green beans will be kept in good condition and care. When you are roasting your green beans it is best if you only roast a weeks worth of coffee beans at a time, for better results in freshness and flavor.
Roasted Beans
Roasted beans are best when used within 6 months and must be properly stored. The best way to store your roasted beans is in an airtight container in a cool dry storage place out of direct sunlight.
You can prolong your roasted beans by storing them in airtight packaging in a freezer for up to 12 months. There is though, a debate about the effects of the moisture that the beans are exposed to as a side effect of defrosting.
Never put the frozen roasted beans in a grinder straight from the freezer. If storing your roasted beans in the fridge they should be stored in an airtight container or in an unopened valve bag. However, with refrigerating your roasted beans there, is also an issue with moisture in condensation in refrigerated roasted beans.
Ground Coffee
Ground coffee deteriorates very quickly. You should grind your coffee beans immediately before use and always store your ground coffee in an airtight container and in a dry cool storage place away from direct sunlight.
When you choose to buy it ready ground, it is best to buy it in small quantities and use it as quickly as possible to better enjoy its full flavor and taste.
Once you purchase your ground coffee and open the airtight seal the coffee will be exposed to oxygen and will deteriorate quickly. Before buying ready ground coffee always check the "Best Before" date on brand of choice so as to obtain the freshest of prepackage ground coffee.
Remember; always store your ground coffee in an airtight container that blocks the direct sunlight from getting to it. Ceramic containers is best because plastic or metal containers can impart a taste to your coffee or coffee beans.
Buy only the amount of coffee that can be used within a couple of weeks to insure flavor and taste of your choice of coffee.
Most of all though, "Enjoy your cup of Coffee as you like it".
