Ideas to solve the American economic crisis

by Joe Christman

Created on: February 09, 2009

Yesterday I was asked what was the one item in Government spending that I conidered the most wasteful . I quickly retorted; congressional salaries. After laughing uncontrollably, my friend said that I sure nailed that one.

Unfortunately, we are on the eve of passing the largest "PORK" legislation ever conceived of by any society. With ultra-rich economic advisor's coming out of the failed banking system, a neophyte President with no hands on management or business experience, and legislators who are intimidated by the "old guard" power structure; the bailout legislation is being ramrodded through Congress. That is the scenario, and God help us all.

We all know that the solution to this economic crisis is jobs, jobs and more jobs. This could be a very attainable goal, but Government interference, (or intervention), tilts a level playing field. We need to sell American hard goods like cars, appliances, and most importantly homes. The impending legislation is spending monies on education, infrastructure, and legislators pet projects. Where is the trickle down effect for the the hard working American white and blue color workers.? I do not see it.

Why not let the common worker spend our nation out of this economic debacle? It can be done with far less cash than the proposed legislation is considering.

Here is the plan. Have the Federal Government assume the liability for all of the State sales taxes for the next 12 months. The guy that needs a new car or truck will be happy to pay 5% or 6% less. The guy that has been waiting to buy that fishing boat, or the woman who wants to buy some furniture. The list of American goods that our nations workers could buy is endless. On 4 Trillion dollars of spending, with an average of a 5% State sales tax, the federal Government would have to pay to the States Five Hundred Billion Dollars. Most of the monies spent by the Federal Government would be recaptured when the manufacturing companies, and retailers file there taxes for the next year.

Additionally. I would propose a cap on lending interest rates. Yes, re-institute a floating rate for a usury law. Cap these loans at a 10% over the rate that the money was borrowed initially. Banks have been living on the home mortgage margin of 2.75% for decades. Credit card companies, cash loan companies, car title loan companies, and the like; have been sucking the cash out of our society, and most importantly the American blue collar worker, for years. Has this led us down the path of no return?

Finally, I said in the beginning of the article that we needed more jobs. I have found about 15,000,000 jobs that should be available to American workers. Unfotrunely, these jobs are being held by Illegal Aliens. These Illegal Aliens send their ill gotten monies to their Country of origin. The American workers would spend this same money on goods and services in the United States. Furthermore, I propose a $10,000 fine to be paid by employers for each and every Illegal Alien found on their payroll; effective 30 days from the passage of the of this vital legislation. I would pray to God that every employer would comply with this law, and that no fines at all would be issued.

If you agree with any or all of my ideas, please forward them to your legislators. Our chldrens' future depends on it.
