I always wanted a Valentine. A proper Valentine. Not a secret message through the letter box proclaiming that roses are red. I always wanted someone who loved me the way I loved them. Deeply. passionately, selflessly. I wanted to be struck by lightning. Blinded by pleasure. I didn't want to get just one arrow. I wanted Cupid's quiver to be empty by the time he had finished with me.
I am not a greedy man. I have so much love to give. It's like an enduring river that floods the landscape with its rich ardour. Yet I had not flowed for a long time. The river bed was bare. Small pools of love were dotted here and there but the earth was dry, starved of any substance that would make it grow. But then the rain came.
Down it poured. Nourishing and feeding. Giving hope to my surroundings. Growing love where only dust had been. The river kept filling. The water kept rising and my heart beat stronger and stronger until I was swept along on the white water of its passion. I could shout again at the world. 'I can love again!' The surge of emotion stained my lips. With liquid love dripping from my eyes, I held my future in my hands. Should I take this chance? Should I take this step?
Some may never face their love for they fear the hurt. They fear the selfless act that loving another actually is. They hide in their shell and close their eyes. They welcome the lonely sound of silence. They embrace the solitude and revel in its shadow.
I dear Cupid do not. My river has been filled by the waters of another and she in turn has allowed me to furnish her with love. I love this woman. I love her. I have no other words to express it. So simple are these words but they are words upon which my world spins. They are the stars in the night. They are in the wind in the trees. The rain in the sky. So easy to say but so easy to say wrongly. That is why I ask you with all the love that Cupid possesses. I love you my darling, will you be my Valentine?

I looked and searched for a different way
to say I love you on Valentine's Day.
Not with the usual poem with a rhyme
saying
My daddy is a hero,
He can't be home with me.
Because he's needed in the war,
Across the deep blue sea.
He said, just blow
by Eric Lies
Would you be my Springtime rains,
that wash away the world's pains?
Would you be my summer sun,
that laughs and plays with
Be my Valentine
Every time I see you
I want you to be mine
To have and hold forever
And share all my good times
I want to have
