At the beginning of her career, Miley Cyrus seemed to be the best role model for young girls. It seemed like kids would finally have someone to look up to and there would be a child to make it through Hollywood safe and sound. With Miley's father Billy-Ray having been through Hollywood, it looked like he would keep her well grounded, and he had said it himself in umpteen million early interviews. However it turned out to not be so.
Out of nowhere came many controversial photos of Miley Cyrus and they spread all over the internet, in perfect reach of a young fan. I am 14 and I used to be a fan of Miley myself, until my showed me all those pictures. The early ones I didn't find too bad but they only seemed to get worse as time went on. There were shots of Miley sharing candy with a female friend and goofing around in those silly weird ways teen girls always mess around. However, because she was a celebrity she was torn to shreds about it. Thinking about it today I can see where it is negative for a younger child to see, but Miley is just a teenage girl trying to have a personal life!
After those photos however it seemed more pictures would be leaked weekly and every time they got worse, until one day the young star was seen in her underwear spread out on her bed. Yet another photo and this time worse than the underwear one. A photo had been spread of her all wet in a shower and wearing just a long white shirt. Now things were truly out of hand. Being a teenager goofing off with friends is one thing but then to be in underwear and then in a wet t-shirt in the shower? Those she definitely had to have taken herself. I could get into that Vanity Fair photo, but what really makes her a bad role model is what she did herself, the pictures that she took. The Vanity Fair someone took of her and that makes them the one at fault.
Aside from Miley's scandalous photos, there is also just her behavior in general. There have been videos of her being awful to her dad. There was a show the Cyrus family temporarily did called "Home At Last" and from videos a friend had shown me Miley was quite rude. Yes, a great thing for her young fans to pick up from her right? It's okay to disrespect your parents. Miley is also quite the ungrateful brat. On her 16th birthday her mother gave her a beautiful Porsche that used to be hers, but Miley didn't want it, it was "used".
It is always sad to see someone with so much hope and potential go so downhill. However, it's her life and there is nothing we can do about it. Unless you keep your child locked in a room with no TV or computer, and they never see magazines at stores or communicate with other people (or hear other people talk) they have more than likely heard about everything Miley Cyrus has done. They most likely have seen at least one of her horrible photos as well. If your child idolizes Miley Cyrus, all that's left to do is make sure they know right from wrong and know that the awful behavior of Miley's is wrong.
