Dressing is a sticky subject for most of us, and dressing well is even harder. There are certain things we know we shouldn't wear- things that don't flatter us and things that we just plainly don't like. But what about what we should wear? That is often harder to figure out, escpecially as we get older. With so many different factors like trends, celebrity influence, money, and even age are all factors that will affect our taste and choice. Here is a little guide to help you decide what to wear as well as what not to wear. Read on.
In Your Teens: This is usually the time that we become aware of fashion and trends. It also is the time that we make a lot of mistakes and then once we reach adulthood we look back and think, "What was I thinking?". That said, this is the time to experiment with fun looks and wild trends(like pink hair and bright red tights) since you can get away with it. But you shouldn't get so carried away that you forget about learning how to dress well. Go ahead and make at least one small seasonal investment, like a black dress, which will be a versaitile componet in your wardrobe. It will also be just the thing to wear to school dances. I am postive that your wardrobe will consist mainly of tee shirts and jeans, but try to buy one pair of terrific jeans and buy cheap seasonal tees that you can toss out once that season is over. A smashing pair of jeans will give you absolute confidence, which is what every teenage girl deserves. Plus once again it is versatile. The biggest thing here is to find cute and trendy things to go with versatile basics.
In Your Twenties: Once you're out of college and into the workforce, your biggest fashion issue is probably what to wear to work. It is important to find clothes that look and feel great, as well as clothes that are appropriate for work. Most jobs and careers are conservative, and some require a uniform. If you don't have to wear a uniform you do have a little leeway. Instead of stuffy suits, it is best to wear pretty blouses, classic trousers, and of course heels. You can also change up the look with a pretty dress and maybe a cute vest. Your twenties are also the time you indulge in the nightlife. You'll need dark sleek jeans, flirty camisoles, dainty yet fun jewelry, and strappy heel sandals. You can still wear trends, but right now you need to find a look that works for you.
In Your Thirties: Now you've proably got a knack on what works and what doesn't. And now you probably care less about trends and more of what flatters you. That doesn't mean you should dress frumpy with mom jeans and baggy tee shirts. You can still wear almost anything you want as long as you dress your age. Wear a sundress with espidrialles, wear a tank top with boot cut jeans, but keep things a little more simple. Solid dark colors and simple large prints are essential. Wear fun jewelry, but try one fun piece at a time. And pay attention to your internal discretion, if it looks to young it probably is.
In Your Fourties: Just because you hit the big 4-0, doesn't mean you're over the hill. So why dress like it? But that doesn't mean you should dress over the top sexpot either. You can wear shorts, but bermuda style is more appropriate. Try to always keep your skirt and dress length at least above the knee. But remember that no matter what your age is, overly high-waisted pants never look good on anyone-in fact they will age you. Also steer clear of blouses and dresses with shoulder pads. Wear clothes that are more streamlined and slimming like a wrap dress or straight leg jeans. Try ruffled tops or flutter sleeve tops. Wear a pretty belted tunic with a long skirt for a sophisticated balance. Dressing should still be fun.
In Your Fifties and Up: Pretty much the same rules as in your fourties. You should dress well, but don't be afraid to play up your shape a little. That doesn't mean that you should wear tight clothing, but you should wear clothes that define and flatter your shape, and that doesn't hide it. No matter what you're age is, you should always look your best, enhance your features and dress confidently.
