What makes a good cat name?
There are a lot of considerations that should be carefully made before choosing cat names. The first of course is a name relating to the sex of your cat. Consider traits that a female cat has versus a male cat. Of course you don't want to name your big spaghetti eating tomcat "Princess," or your hoity-toity feline "Butch." Each cat has their own personality and their name should be fitting of their character.
Kittens begin building their personality at a very young age and it doesn't take long to see who is the alpha-kitty and the runt. These are just a couple of traits that you can use to name your pet accordingly. Maybe the alpha-kitty is a milk hogging, fight picking male kitten. How about "Rocky" or "Rambo." Maybe she is the smallest of the litter and prances around like America's next top model. You could name her "Princess" or "Isabella."
Watch your cat closely. Hold them in your arms and just look at them. You will be surprised at what names will pop out at you. The colors of their fur, maybe a certain spot on them in the shape of something unique. Maybe the color of their eyes, the specks on their nose, the way they purr. Each cat is different and these are all characteristics that you can study to find the best name for your cat.
Think about how you acquired your frisky feline. Did you rescue him/her at the animal shelter? Did he/she show up at your doorstep begging for food? Did he/she show up at your farm to apply for the "mousing" position? These are all special circumstances that can help you pick a good cat name. Put your heart into picking your cats name accordingly. Maybe this cat has fulfilled a special place in your life, such as the loss of a loved one, or the loss of another pet. You can also come up some very unique cat names by researching topics such as the names of the constellations, the history of famous cats or movie star cats.
Another great way to come up with a cats name is to let your children or grandchildren choose it. Children have a way of bonding with an animal and seeing the animals true personality thus allowing them to discover creative names. Maybe they notice your cat sneezes a lot, how about "Sniffles?" Just make sure the name they come up with is fitting for your cat. Many people come up with a cat name that is not fitting of the cat's true temperament. People may be afraid to approach a cat named "Killer" when he fact he may be a lovable cuddly pet. Below is a list of some of the more popular cat names.
Male cat names:
Oliver
Garfield
Romeo
Heathcliff
Tiger
Rocky
Rambo
Ch arlie
Boomer
Buster
Female cat names:

Chloe
Maggie
Isabella

Sophie
The focus on naming your cat is again, its personality or the method in which you acquired it. The name you choose is a special link between you and your cat and no matter what name you choose, as long as it goes from your heart to theirs, you will all be happy.
