How to find a good general contractor

itself.

3. Licensed and Insured

Just to be safe, this should be one of the first questions out of your mouth. It's hard to go wrong with an insured contractor with a contractor's license. Of course, this also depends on the size of the project. The larger the job, the more qualifications deemed necessary. And remember, experience is always the most important thing to consider.

4. Money Up Front

Be cautious of a contractor that wants to be paid before beginning the project. Furthermore, a stable, self-reliant and established contractor should also be able to pay for the materials out of his own pocket. He can then include compensation for the items at the time of completion. At the very least, he should initially be able to pay for the necessary items and then ask for reimbursement at a later time. Of course, some exceptions to this rule can be made for extremely expensive projects.

5. Common Sense and Good Judgment

When hiring a contractor, professionalism is just as important as knowledge and confident work. The same rules can be applied to picking the right contractor as with choosing the right dentist. If your dentist were unprofessional, inexperienced or dishonest, you wouldn't want him poking around in your mouth with sharp metal objects, so why would you put faith in a disreputable contractor to rewire your family's home. You shouldn't expect any less from your contractor.
