Attending a college was all I wanted after completing my high-school. Like most of my friends, I also chose to go for the community college but then my fate intervened and my father asked to join a career college. What could a fresh high-school pass out, who is totally dependant on his parents, do in such a situation, so I decided to obey him.
After a few months at the career college I have started feeling that I have surely made the right choice, especially when I see my friends who started of with me at the community colleges. I am more pro-active, feeling a sense of focus flourishing in myself. I am now more aware about the happenings around me, can very well evaluate them, and analyze the right and wrong directions. May be that's called Professionalism.
Attending a career college is a better choice in many ways as I can choose any field of interest at any level of convenience i.e. Associate, Bachelor's, Master's degrees, I can also choose a number of diplomas and certificates offered by the career colleges. I can completely focus on my career due to the relevant training offered by the college, unlike community ones. The career colleges even provide with scheduling flexibility, in which course can be completed during the day, evening or weekend and sometimes on-line as well. Career colleges even provide with scholarships to deserving students. For in-demand careers career colleges have much shorter or no wait times, unlike community colleges. Career colleges are perceived as being expensive, however, it would cost more over the long run to attend the community college! You attend a college mainly to get an education, learn a profession and be able to provide for you future. A career college does all these things in lesser time. Most career college graduates make a higher starting wage as well, depending on their degree. Worrying about help at a career college is no worry at all. I myself have been so many times helped out by the professors here because mostly they are specialized individuals from industries and encourage new talent to prosper.
One more thing that really makes me proud about my decision is the atmosphere at a career college which can be defined as professionalized, learning, personally attended, friendly and helpful. The bottom line is career colleges offer many distinct advantages over traditional schools. Don't let the perceived disadvantages of a career college, from within our community, derail you from a bright future.
