Motorcycles and the biker lifestyle in general have taken the world by storm, enticing many folks from various walks of life. There are so many varied definitions of what a true biker is but when it comes down to it, it is more than an activity it is a feeling deep down and an action-packed way of life.
Once upon a time, the word "biker" made many people cringe. Gangs such as The Outlaws or The Hell's Angels made biking seem undesirable and dangerous. Many people looked down motorcycling because they had no desire to be in a gang or anything of sort. Actually, being in a biker gang is not as popular as many people thought though. It is said that only one percent of bikers are actually in gangs so judging the lifestyle on a small percent would be unfair.
Bikers are actually wonderful people, many of which have a heart of gold. They are simply enjoying a hobby, just as a sports fanatic might enjoy playing ball. Bikers are normal everyday people just like the rest of us.
Not all bikers wear leather and chains.
There is no required uniform for riding a bike. Leather is comfortable and stylish but not wearing it is your choice. Bikers will wear what is comfortable to ride in. They learn from experience and dress accordingly.
Real bikers aren't out to break the law.
A small group of people on bikes may be into criminal activities but many people aren't. Most folks that ride have day jobs and a life outside of riding. They ride to have fun not to do illegal things.
A real biker is not poor and trashy.
Again, this is merely a stereotype. Motorcycles are actually expensive to purchase and maintain. People who own bikes aren't always super wealthy but they generally aren't standing on the corner holding up a sign for gas money.
Real bikers are safe.
In general, no one wants to die in a wreck. Those that bike do it because they enjoy it and not because they have a death wish. A real biker will be safe and cautious when out on the road. They know that the bike might go at rapid speeds but they know it isn't necessary to have fun.
Bikers are friendly and helpful.
At one point or another a bike is going to break down, most bikers have experienced this. As a result, they are willing to help others in the same situation. In the biker world, everyone has the same goal: to be on the open road.
Bikers have big hearts.
There are many wonderful organizations that are sponsored and fundraised for by biking events. Every year, more and more people on bikes are participating in charity rides and worthwhile events to help raise money for the less fortunate.
A biker is passionate about his or her bike.
A biker relies on his or her bike for entertainment, relaxation, and the freedom of the open roads. Many bikers will treat their bike like a child or a pet. They love it and may even name it.
Bikers are happy people.
They enjoy the wind blowing through their hair and the adventure around every corner. A biker knows how invigorating a ride can be, no matter the length. They are open to new experiences on the open road and look forward to the time they can spend on their bike.
As you can see, a true biker breaks all the stereotypical modes. They ride because they want to. They need to. It is who they are deep down. They love it, and if you would give it a chance, you'd feel the same way!
