We are born into this human experience. Choices abound. Who are we? What shall we be?
"Ok, God. This place has been such a blessing, I have felt so spiritually lifted, so complete. Machu Picchu is officially my new home away from home. The beauty of this place has seemed to transform me, God. But something still feels as if it is missing. As I go into meditation, here in this extraordinary place, I am asking for guidance. I am asking for something, a knowing, anything God, that I can bring home with me. Something I need to know at the depths of my being.."
I seemed to fit perfectly into the cave, etched into the earth, looking out on the breath-taking mountains, ruins and Urubamba river. I took a deep breath and watched the clouds lifting off the mountain directly in front of me. I closed my eyes, my prayer on my lips. In the darkness of my mind's eye, the silhouette of the mountain I had been looking at remained imprinted. I continued to watch it.
And then, the mountain began to shift, change shape, it seemed to be transforming in the darkness of my meditation. I watched it in awe as it twisted and began to lift. Suddenly I recognized letters, words being formed. And there before my eyes in bright pink letters were two simple words: I AM.
Complete and total peace filled me. I felt a wave of Love as I had never felt before. But the Love was not coming from outside of my body, it was coming from deep within me. I felt it emanate from the center of my being spreading out like branches and roots of tree, filling every single cell of my body. I was lifted at the same time I felt completely to the ground beneath me. I knew in that moment I was one with everything and everyone.
The Divine Essence of the Universe, I believe, lives within every atom and therefore everyone of us. It lives INSIDE of us and beckons to us to be It's expression here and now. At all times we are a mere 18 inches away from living from the inside out. It only requires moving from living from our heads to hearts.
This is not a difficult task. It involves first and foremost realizing that great I AM is not separate from us. Each time we use the words: I AM we must look at what follows. Is it a negative statement or one that is filled with love, understanding and compassion for all, including and especially ourselves. When you come from that place of Truth and Unconditional Love for all you have succeeded. You are living from the INSIDE out.
