Should African-American history be taught in schools?

First of all, I believe that all American History should be taught in schools. Not just selected bits of history. I believe that our Constitution, in its ENTIRITY should be taught and therefore there would be NO questions about whether Religion plays a part in our History, Religious Freedom is the FOUNDATION upon which we built the United States of America!

African-American History is also a MAJOR part of the history of the United States of America, the entire Civil War was fought on the principle of Freedom for the African-American nation within a nation. How will our African-American children learn about their own heritage if we delete the part of our history that is based on African -American backs?

It's similar to saying that the heritage, history of the Jewish people in Egypt should be stricken from the Bible. Our African-American heritage is a heritage with which we take great pride and at the same time we cower from, because what we and the British and the Spaniards did was to Steal them (Africans) with chains and whips, away from their native lands, never again to know the freedoms of their own private culture. Even now, if African-American people return to their natural land, they feel as aliens. Why? Because they are no longer African, rather they are African-American and all African-American people should know their history and how they came to be called Americans as well as African-Americans.

I am Italian -American and I have learned with some effort on my behalf, about my Italian heritage. But, my Italian -Americanism is not a majority in the United States of America, so by voting as an Italian-American, my vote may not sway in one direction or the other. However, the African-American vote may sway an entire country toward a liberal point of view or a conservative point of view. I believe that we have an African-American President in the year of Our Lord 2009, not JUST because he is African-American, but mostly because he represents change in our society, our politics, our desires for the country and because we have heard all the rest of the rhetoric of previous candidates, but Mr. Obama, he has new ideas.

We want to see if he will be able to lead our country in a better direction. Recently, I spoke out in a small group of christians about how proud I am to live in a country where, if we are asked, we would come to the aid of countries and oppressed nations, per their invitation to try to ensure peace and freedom.

I believe with all my heart that people of any nation being oppressed, or not able to worship in their own way, in public is an oppressed nation. Any nation that can not freely express their rights as citizens for or against the politics of their generation is an oppressed nation. My Nation, The United States of America is a nation by which is swayed by empathy for these countries and is one of the Greatest of all nations on the globe.

I'm terribly proud to stand among men of great value and moral fiber, let those countries that are opressed, punished for their beliefs, tortured for their views come to us and may they ask us for help. We will never deny them a right to be heard!
