No, Michael Phelps is not being treated fairly in the wake of his marijuana photo scandal. Although Michaell Phelps seemed to have been super human in the Olympics believe it or not folks he is actually only human. Remember this is a young man on top of the world at only twenty three years of age. A lesser man may have already gone much more to pieces by now. True smoking marijuana is a crime in most states but, it's not heroine or cocaine were talking about here. Some people will say, well I don't want my child looking up to a "Pot Head". Well, this is one instance of a very poor decision on the part of a man who is most likely trying to just get by the best way he knows how after achieving so much in so little time. Understand that albeit a very stupid and we now know very costly mistake on the part of superstar Michael Phelps it is undeniably clear that we are not dealing a drug addict here or even someone with a drug problem for that matter.

This has got to have been truly poor judgement on his part for allowing this to happen. Mr. Michael "All American" Phelps by now has to have known that he is and always will be from this point on, under a magnifying glass. At least until his flame burns out, which may well be in the very near future. Unfortunately for good old Mikey boy the person who took this photo, that may very well have ruined his foreseeable career was most likely someone he knew and trusted and ended up making a lot of money by way of his super star demise. A photo of such a colossal blunder of someone newly in the lime light of something so enormous as eight GOLD medals must have fetch a pretty good sized pay off. Even if it was a total stranger who snapped that now infamous photo one has to ask, what were you thinking? How could you not know that something like this can, does and will happen?

Nevertheless, Michael Phelps should not be paying for this one time indiscretion. Granted the image of the all American hero with a Bong to his lips is discouraging but, why ruin this bright young athletes career and life over something so trivial. All the top people and other employees of the companies that sponsored him have gone to college and partied. Don't let any one fool you. No one is perfect. People make mistakes. Especially when they are young and find themselves in a position that most people will never dream of acheiving or experiencing for perhaps another millenium. The pressure on this kid must be tremendous. Instead what should happen is all the sponsors that have dropped his endorsements ought to spin this mess into a positive message for keeping it together no matter who your are. This will help people because people genuinely see this young man as someone to look up to and strive to be like. Helping this gifted accomplished young man instead of making an example of him will truly be a way to demonstrate getting over hurtles and overcoming adversities in these troubling times. At this point in history with the economy tanking and people losing jobs across America we as Americans need a Micheal Phelps to look up to.
