So, You Want To Start Your Own Business
This is not a complete list and if you can add the pieces that are not included here it will be good practice for running your business, because no one has all the answers that you will need.
1. You must write a plan describing everything about your business, and this first plan is for you. Be precise, accurate, and honest. If you do not know, say so, and then do your research.
2. Write down everything that you can about your business.
3. Why you want to do it?
4. What skills do you have?
5. What experience do you have?
6. Do you have good credit?
7. Are you in good health, and willing to work really hard for a long time?
8. Are you happy, and outgoing, and do you like to talk to strangers?
9. Who do you know that might advise, or help you?
10. What you will produce?
11. Where will you operate?
12. Where will you sell?
13. How much will it cost to get into business, and how much do you have to do it?
14. How you will market and sell it?
15. Who will buy it, how many, and why?
16. How will you make, produce, or buy the product?
17. What will your product cost?
18. What will be your sales price?
19. Make sales projection chart.
20. Make an operating budget.
21. Make a cash flow projection.
22. Calculate when, or if you can break even.
23. Include your income in the balance sheet.
24. Before deciding on your salary, add up all your living expenses.
25. If your salary does not cover your living expenses, then you have a hobby, not a business.
Once you have something that is readable, even if you are not there to explain what you really meant to say, show it to people that you trust and think might be qualified to offer advice and criticism. If everyone says, "It is a fine plan" then you may be showing it to the wrong group of people and you must try to get evaluations that are more detailed.
1. Listen to their comments and try to answer them. (In writing, in your plan).
2. If your first statement is about making money, just go and get a job.
3. The purpose of your business is to satisfy your customers. If you are thinking about the profits first, you are not paying attention to your real job.
4. Remember that everything you remove from your product to make it less expensive to produce is something that the customer wanted.
5. If you think that people will buy from you because your product is cheap, remember that someone will always be able to do it cheaper, and where is the profit or the pleasure in selling low quality products at low prices?
