Poetry: Snowflakes

by Schmity Marshall

Created on: February 07, 2009

A small puff of vapor,
Breathed birth from the ebony sky,
With milky crystal arms and legs,
That float, flutter and fly; fly!

Angelically radiant in every swift stride,
Perfectly synchronized with every flickering flop,
Ultimately elegant in every circular ringlet,
As they swirl and spiral, non stop.

And when the wind billows,
The flakes furiously bolt; bolt!
Fiercely cluttering, to and fro,
Rocketing into a brawling jolt.

And when the sea of air blows slow; slow;
The falling flakes dance, gaily,
And they mildly rock back and forth
Like the gentle strum of a ukulele.

As the world, rapidly, keeps its rotation,
The snowflake dangles, dribbles, and drapes,
Awaiting its destiny of defrosting on the grasses,
Yet, hopeful of a possible way to escape.

The exquisite flake is swaying, soothingly.
And sluggishly sinking, sinking, sinking,
Coming closer to the verdant bed below,
And finally shrinking, shrinking, shrinking.
