she walks around with bruises
she explains them all away
the old one's all are fading
but there's fresh one's every day
she's "bumped into the dresser"
she's "slipped down all the stairs"
and silently she's waiting
to find someone who cares
He's loved by all his friends
he's the greatest of the great
behind closed doors he's different
his soul consumed with hate
he talks to her with fists of rage
and later makes amends
he watched his parents do the same
it's time the cycle ends
today as she goes shopping
there's one stop on her list
that her husband doesn't quite expect
it finally came to this
the pawn shop has a pistol
she's planning her goodbye
tonight the tables being turned
toight's his turn to cry.
