Understanding the law of attraction

The Law of attraction is far from a secret through history.

Already 2500 years ago Siddharta Gautama, also known as the Buddha, said in the opening verses of Dhammapada: "Mind precedes its objects. They are mind-governed and mind-made. To speak or act with a defiled mind is to draw pain after oneself, like a wheel behind the feet of the animal drawing it. Mind precedes its objects. They are mind-governed and mind-made. To speak or act with a peaceful mind, is to draw happiness after oneself, like an inseparable shadow. I have been insulted! I have been hurt! I have been beaten! I have been robbed! Anger does not cease in those who harbour this sort of thought. I have been insulted! I have been hurt! I have been beaten! I have been robbed! Anger ceases in those who do not harbour this sort of thought. Occasions of hatred are certainly never settled by hatred. They are settled by freedom from hatred. This is the eternal law"

About 500 years later Jesus said "Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain. 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours!"

It is important to keep in mind that feelings circle around beliefs. If you, for instance strongly believe that poverty lies in your family, you need to change that belief before you can truly feel rich. If not the feelings will be opposed and objected by yourself. When your Father reminds your goals are foolish dreams that will only lead to pain and disappointment, for instance, you may "know" he is right because you share his belief, like his father may have too. The feelings you had for a while will then be like snow in Sahara.

Recognizing a belief as belief, and not fact, is a good start. Changing it will even change the feelings connected to it, and you will attract people and events that reflects and reinforces your new belief. That's at least my experience. In retrospect you may see that the old beliefs were nothing more than habitual feelings that you didn't question. Feelings, thoughts and beliefs are aspects of the same, only divided according to how we consciously see the ego's responsibility for them.

It is also important to be aware of more collective beliefs, like 'reality can't work this way because science has proved that feelings and beliefs are only by-products of external causation'. It has not, and belongs to materialistic beliefs on shaky ground. However, only you can discover the relationship between your feelings and the events you experience as outside of yourself. My experience is that they truly are interdependent.

Stop up for a while, from the daily feedback loop of outer events and reactive feelings, and take a look at your feelings, beliefs and related experiences from a fresh perspective. You don't have to continue feeling bad because you felt bad because you felt bad etc. Is such circles worth keeping? Why? Add another why to any belief you may justify the feeling with. Good luck attracting!
