Short stories: The muse

As a person encounters life's tragedies, she finds herself falling into a deep depression when tragedy strikes so close to home. Losing a spouse and a child all in a two years time became one of the toughest things she had ever dealt with. As a writer, she began to find it hard to express anything without tears. Finally, after attempting to write to escape the pain, she found herself drifting further into a depressed state.

No one usually looks for muses. They seem to show up when you need them the most. Sometimes a muse comes from an unusual place like the Internet. This writer found herself escaping on the Internet and trying to write something of value. As she discovered that she held the much dreaded plague that writers encounter, "Writer's block", she began sitting in front of her computer just staring at the screen without one letter being typed. She would occasionally write an article, but even those seemed dead. She wanted and needed some other income besides her disability, so she began searching for things to do. One, day her search brought her to a new site. It was developed for people in her own age range. This man wanted her to come up with a catchy title and she was excited about doing it. She did come up with one, but did not hear from him.

A couple of weeks later, this man writes her and apologizes for not getting back to her sooner. He tells her that he loved her title but the other editors chose a different one. He had developed these sites, so he wanted to pay her something for her trouble. She felt more useful than she had in a long time. He wanted her to write for this site, but she had no confidence. He was a very intelligent man with a lot of knowledge about article writing. This was not her best style of writing, so he set out to teach her. He was moving very fast in his lessons and she became overwhelmed and sat there and cried. She just knew this man was going to tell her "Oh, well, I cannot help you, then." Instead, this man apologized for taking things so fast and began communicating with her everyday, several times a day. He began encouraging her, telling her that she was special and she had a unique talent.

Her muse; we will call him Joe, was a very kind, patient man. We will call her Mary. Mary and Joe became very close just emailing each other. They started out as teacher and student and became very good friends. He was usually always the perfect gentleman and she was a Christian lady who demanded respect, but also was lonely for
