We all know what it is like to get a bad haircut. We tell the stylist what we want, they apply their 'creative' flair to it, we take a look at the finished result and hate it. But our bizarre loyalty and inability to tell the truth to hairdressers makes us politely say we love it, and we proceed to go home and brush it, wash it, flatten it and do all we can in the hope that we can transform it. Now if you are at this stage of the process, that means that you are coming to terms that you are stuck with a bad haircut, but here's some good news. You can take consolation in the fact that hair grows, so this is only a temporary situation and there are many ways to make the best out of a bad situation.
Here are five ways you can disguise a bad haircut - and here's the great part - with style.
1. Accessorize
It is time to bring out the big guns with your accessories, this means experimenting with clips, hair bands, scarves, ribbons and hats. Whilst you may not like you haircut, you may be able to find parts that you do like so that you can expose those parts and hide the bits you dislike. Alternatively, if you are in a position where it is close to what you would like it to have looked like but it is not quite there, you can use an array of clips and bands to secure the hair in a way to make it look how you had originally intended.
2. Colour
Colouring your hair is a great way of transforming its look without having to go under the knife - I mean scissors too soon. If you are a brave fashionitta, go for a bold colour to make it look more like a fashion statement than a bad haircut you are trying to hide. Alternatively, play around with deeper or more subtle colours to create a more intense but demure look. A great way is to use temporary colours that wash in and wash out, so that you do not damage your hair and have the flexibility to play around with different colours until you find a look you are happy with.
3. Styling
Often the remedy for a bad haircut lies in the way it is styled. You may be comfortable with your usual styling routine, but it is worth experimenting with some new ones to see if you can change the way your haircut looks to your advantage. Try different types of blowdries, see what straightening it looks like, or add some curls.
4. Cut it again
If you are feeling brave, you may be able to improve upon a bad haircut by entrusting your stylist with a pair of scissors again. Before taking this step, it is important to figure out what it is about your haircut that you do not like so that you can concisely and clearly communicate this to your stylist. To ensure that he/she has understood what you are saying, ask them to repeat it back to you, and to explain what they intend to do before cutting. If the reason that you do not like your hair cut is because it is too short, you may not be able to add length (unless you are willing to go for extensions), but you may be able to tailor the length to a style which you can handle until it grows.
5. Go into hiding!
Although I wouldn't advise stopping your life because of a haircut, there is always that last resort of hiding away from the world until your hair grows!
