Video game reviews: Dragon Ball Z, Burst Limit

Dragonball Z: Burst Limit is the latest game in the Dragonball Z franchise that has many games out. Atari, the same company that once produced the longest running console of all time being the Atari 2600, created the game. Much like the other DBZ fighting games, it takes the elements for the most part and actually tells a story but does it in chapters. This one has the tradition of having two bonus chapters involved.

Story: It is divided into specific chapters retelling some of the stories that happened in the DBZ universe starting with the Saiyan Saga and ending with the Cell saga. For the Saiyan Saga, it tells the story of how Radditz came to Earth and would have the battle with Goku and Piccolo, despite at the time both being enemies. Instead of the format like Budokai Tenkaichi, it goes straight to the battles and opens them up as another level. What is noticeable is that it does with what is there follows the story and you portray the character intending to be the victor to advance the story.

Graphics: The game looks as close to the anime as it can possibly get. Everything is as it should look and there are no mistakes on that end. Nothing more on it can be said except that they are good and recognizable.

Game Play: It is like a button masher but just mainly one button to get a multiple hit combination on an opponent. The controls are easy to adapt to and shouldn't be a problem when it comes to playing. Its battles are basically one and done and that's it. You can determine the difficult per battle and increase to see if you can do better on a higher level.

Missing Elements: Some of the biggest elements missing would have to be the entire Androids saga with Dr. Gero and 19 coming out for example after Future Trunks killed both Frieza and King Cold. Upon further examination, the Garlic Jr. saga was also taken out of the picture but that one may not be as big of a deal depending on enjoyment of it or not.

Final Review: The two bonus chapters were cool. The worst character to play as based upon playing would be Broly. His big final attack isn't as cool as some of the other ones like the Final Flash from Vegeta. There is nothing overall bad about this game. It is missing some pieces to the stories but maybe the door will be open to go for a sequel to the game. Most likely, if there is a sequel, it would have to do with the Buu and maybe some of the GT sagas combined but who knows. If you are a Dragonball Z fan, this is something to consider actually. The Xbox 360 version is pretty good actually. Chalk this one up as another solid DBZ fighting game.
