With a love for movies old and new, it's hard for me to NOT have a lot of favorite quotes. I have friends who are the same and sometimes we sit and quiz each other to see who knows from what movie a particular line is said.
The following are a few of my favorites.
Dr. Strangelove: I laughed so hard at the comic irony of this famous line:
"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room. ..."
Dirty Dancing: Ok, so everyone knows this line, but it's become a hokey classic.
"Nobody puts Baby in a corner."
Mildred Pierce: Joan Crawford won and acadamy award for this Dark Piece and she certainly deserved it. This is a line to her backstabbing, social climbing daughter:
"Veda, I think I'm really seeing you for the first time in my life and you're cheap and horrible."
Fried Green Tomatoes probably has a whole book of great lines, but there are two (both by Kathy Bates) that really stand out for me:
In a tearful, menopausal moment:
"I'm too young to be old and I'm too old to be young."
After waiting patiently for a parking place at the grocery store, only to have it quickly taken away by two young women she hears:
"Face it lady, we're younger and faster!"
In a fit of rage and a rebel yell of TAWANDA!, she
begins to ram her car into the young woman's car and comes back with:
"Face it, I'm older and I have more insurance!" (a real personal favorite of mine)
Who could forget this one from The Sixth Sense?
"I see dead people." (nuff said)
Arthur: The lovable drunk (if there really is such a thing announces to his butler:
"I'm going to take a bath."
To which the butler replies:
"I'll alert the media."
Who could possibly forget the totally dark "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?"
Joan Crawford's character Blanche says to Bette Davis, (Jane)
"You wouldn't be able to do these awful things to me if I weren't still in this [wheel] chair."
And Jane's evil retort:
"But cha are, Blanche! Ya are in that chair!"
I'm not big on westerns, but "The Quick and the Dead" breaks the mold.
A totally disgusting man that goes by "Scars" says to Ellen played by the lovely Sharon Stone:
"I need a woman."
Her reply?
"You need a bath..." (you gotta love it)
A hilarious quote from "When Harry Met Sally":
"There are two kinds of women: high maintenance and low maintenance." "Which one am I?" "You're the worst kind. You're high maintenance but you think you're low maintenance."
Elle (Reese Witherspoon) from Legally Blonde had so many:
1. "Whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed."
2. "I just don't think that Brooke could've done this. Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands, they just don't."
3. Vivian: "Nice outfit."
Elle: "Oh, I like your outfit too, except when I dress up as a frigid b*tch, I try not to look so constipated."
And now I'll leave you with one that everybody has said at least once.
From the now Governor of California (Arnold Schwarzenegger) in "The Terminator":
"I'll be back"
