We are indeed getting close to the battle of Armageddon, or at least to the events which lead to it. Most everything associated with End Times prophecy is unfolding regularly in the headlines.
In the sixties we were warned to build bomb shelters and stock supplies while fallout shelters went up all over the place. Then it was global cooling and we were told we were heading for another ice age.
Y2K was one of the greatest fears of the new millennium. People stocked food, water and supplies but nothing happened. Aides, bird flu, H1N1 and other diseases have all shared the headlines along with global warming and now, it's December 21, 2012- Dooms Day!
Why are there so many conspiracies and dooms day theories? Could it be that we are being desensitized?
Jesus Christ warned us of these things. He said on several occasions to be careful of deception. (Luke 21:8, 1Cor. 6:9, 1 Cor. 15:33, Gal. 6:7, 1 Tim. 2:14, just to name a few.)
Even some Christians have been so desensitized that they roll their eyes at the mention of the End Times or Armageddon. A number of Christians have prepared so many times for situations which never happened that their hearts have turned to stone. Many have become lukewarm and have fainted, turning to false teachers who say what they want to hear. (2 Tim. 4:3) Some no longer recognize the truth because they've been fed so many lies.
The Bible warns us about growing faint in our faith. (Rev. 2:3) The powers and principalities of this world would like nothing better than to distract us from the things that are really happening around the world as Bible prophecy unfolds all around us.
"And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you... ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars... but the end is not yet... and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows." (Matt. 24)
WARS AND RUMORS OF WAR:
We are all aware of the worldwide unrest and all of the violence of war and terrorism- more in the past century than any other. And for the first time in history it is not beyond the realm of possibility for war to come to our own shores.
FAMINE:
Scientists around the world are locked in debate over global warming and climate change. We have all experienced the dramatic changes in our climate over the last few years. Winters are much colder and summers are sweltering. This puts a serious strain on crops and clean water sources.
A time is coming when a loaf of bread could cost a day's wage. (Rev. 6:6) Even today, due to climate change and severe shortages, food riots are breaking out in many areas around the world.
PESTILENCE:
Mosquitoes are moving into areas in which they normally couldn't survive; exposing people to diseases they've never been exposed to before. Those in regions experiencing drought or flood are becoming sick and migrating to neighboring regions, spreading diseases. The H1N1 virus spread around the world so quickly that countries didn't have time to close their borders.
EARTHQUAKES IN DIVERSE PLACES:
From 1890 to 1900 there was only one significant earthquake in the entire world. Earthquakes are not only happening more frequently, they're much more intense.
FALSE PROPHETS:
"And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be." (Matt. 24)
Jim Jones and David Koresh are probably the most popular of the false prophets who claimed to be the Messiah, leading a number of people to their deaths. Nevertheless, none of them comes close to those of the End Times and the Antichrist who will lead the nations to the battle of Armageddon.
THE LOVE OF MANY SHALL WAX COLD:
Isn't it odd how cold and indifferent people seem to be these days? There has been more deception and scams in the last few decades than any other- from the government all the way to the church. Hollywood has been desensitizing us to violence, immorality and sexual misconduct for decades.
America was once a God-fearing nation, but in 1963, the Supreme Court expelled God from all public schools. The name of God wasn't even allowed to be spoken anywhere on school grounds. Look back at the time before America rejected God then look at the times we're living in today.
SIGNS IN THE SUN, MOON AND STARS:
The solar system is gearing up for an alignment that hasn't happened in 26,000 years or so, which is predicted to cause severe climatic disturbances around the world by 2012. Experts who study these things believe the sun could wipe out the power grid, sending us back to the age before technology.
Could you live off the land? Even if you could, do you have the equipment and supplies to do so? Could you help friends and neighbors who are starving and in desperate need of help?
What's more, are you aware of how many people there are who don't want your generosity- those who want it ALL? Those who would just as soon knock you in the head and take everything you have? Are you prepared to help defend your home, family and friends?
Exaggeration? Perhaps. But anyone who has studied the events associated with End Time prophecy knows where we are on God's time clock. The facts are in the bible and the Internet is filled with helpful information associated with the End Times and Armageddon. Take advantage of it while it's still available.
There are many things we need to learn before the start of the great tribulation when the only way anyone will be able to buy or sell is to take the mark of the beast. To refuse means no doctors, or hospitals, no job, no school and so on.
Those of us who live to experience the Great tribulation, which ends with the battle of Armageddon and the end of the world, will see some incredible things.
"For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before." (Matt 24)
However, the most important thing for everyone to know is that Jesus Christ will appear on the heals of the Battle of Armageddon. And for those who don't know Him and therefore haven't developed a relationship with Him, it's going to be a terrifying sight.
Preparing for our physical needs is a wise thing to do, but neglecting the needs of our soul is outright lunacy.
"And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?" (Luke 12:18)
Do you know Him? More importantly, does He know you?
"Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty." (Rev. 1:7)
