Little known Oklahoma state facts

Oklahoma is a state with a unique and interesting history. The state does have a few little know facts about the states towns and cities, its celebrities and national parks. Oklahoma was the setting for the movie twister and was the site of the first tornado forecast.





Some cities is Oklahoma have many interesting facts. Oklahoma City was where the worlds first parking meter was installed in 1935. A town called Vinita which was established on 1871 is the oldest incorporated town on Oklahoma Route 66. It was also the first town is Oklahoma to be setup with electricity. On July 5, 1943 a B-17 bomber dropped six practice bombs at approximately 12:30 am while the town slept. It was the only city in the United States to be bombed during World War II. The town of Guthrie was the first capital of Oklahoma after a vote of the people it was moved to Oklahoma City,




Oklahoma produced some well known and famous celebrities. One of which was Garth Brooks who was born in the city of Tulsa but grew up in Yukon, Oklahoma. An infamous celebrity went by the name of Belle Starr. She was one of the most famous outlaws and is buried in an isolated grave to the southwest of Porum, Oklahoma. One little known fact is that Foress B Lillie setup the first drug store which was established in Guthrie. Lillie was issued the first license certificate when Oklahoma then a new state registered him as a practicing pharmacist. Also, a man by the name of Bo Dunn invented the first electric guitar in 1935




Oklahoma has many national parks and memorials that have an interesting history. There is Turner Falls Park in Davis which is the oldest park established in Oklahoma. There are many springs from the world famous Arbuckle Mountains that form Homey Creek. The creek flows down a seventy-seven foot fall into a natural swimming pool which makes Turner Falls the largest waterfall in Oklahoma. Another park is called Spiro Mounds which is Oklahoma's only archaeological park. It sites on a 140 acre site that contain 12 mounds with evidence of Indian culture that occupied the area from 850 A.D. to 150 A.D.




Oklahoma has a rich and varied history that many people may not be aware of or even know about. For instance, Oklahoma is where the movie Twister was filmed. It is also where the first Tornado warning was issued on March 25, 1948. Oklahoma is also known for is Indian Reservations and is a former Indian territory.
