Poetry: Love unrequited

Almost One

When I felt your touch for the first time
I instantly wanted you for mine
Tingles of electricity leaping through me
Unspoken promises of things to be

Time spent in heavens hands
Days and nights on beaches sand
Like the water with the rising tide
I loved you with everything inside

A love to never be undone
Passing days souls growing into one
Love that runs so deep and true
My heart being given to you

I gave myself clear and free
For all the world to undoubtedly see
That you were my one and only love
As surely as the clouds drifting above

I never expected to get my heart back
I thought you'd hold it eternally intact
I stand drenched in tears like rain
Never before have I known such pain

One soul returning to face life alone
How could I have ever known
That love given so pure and true
Would one day be returned by you

The hurt it fades as time goes on
The pain never completely gone
Memories like the setting sun
Two souls that were almost one
