Creating a bedroom decor in black and red

Creating a bedroom with black and red decor should begin with the color of the walls. Since both black and red are such bold colors and you may at some point in time want to change up your decor, it would be best to use a lighter color, such as a soft gray or a very pale burgundy (almost just a hint of color) to paint the walls. Both of these colors will go with the decor theme, but not be so bold that they detract from the room furnishings and other decor. They will also be easiest to paint over in the future if you choose without needing to first prime the walls.

Next add in the furniture for the room. Black furniture would be the recommended choice since it is a furniture color that would be easier to find than red, and would be easier in the future to mix and match with other colors should you decide to change your decor. Even if you are just adding in a dresser and nightstands, you can create a decorative headboard art piece in black and red that will tie into your color scheme and be easy to change out in the future if you choose.

By using colors for the walls and furniture that are easier to mix and match with other color schemes, you will find it easier to switch out decor in the future whether for season changes or just to change things up. You will find it easier to change out the bed linens or decorative accessories by keeping the walls and furniture "neutral." You can also add red or black window treatments, or throw rugs even if you have a carpeted floor. Lamps on the nightstands could be black bases with red shades, red bases with black shades, or a neutral nickel base with either color shade.

Since I live in Florida close to the beach, my bedroom walls are painted a sage green with white crown molding and trim, my bedroom furniture is black, and I also have black shelves on the walls. My bed linens are a tropical palm design, but in order to add some color in the room, I choose a painting for over the bed that is of a tropical bungalow with a red door. The red door in the artwork gives me the ability to add red "pops" to every other wall in the rest of the room with red silk orchids, red candles, red wooden picture frames with photos of my pets and my favorite vacations. I also have a red and multi green striped pillow on my bed to tie it all together, and black wall mounted lamps with red shades.

Creating a bedroom decor in black and red can be easy and imaginative by just using accessories to bring in all your color "pops!"
