How to start your own Wiccan Book of Shadows

Looking for a way to start your own Book of Shadows? That really is not such a hard thing to do. Books of Shadows vary from wiccan to wiccan, it is entirely up to you what sort of set up your book will have. I suppose the best examples I can give are from me making my own growing Book of Shadows.

To begin with, I have to find the perfect journal to start writing things in. I have not found it yet. Though I do know what will be going in it. My Book of Shadows will contain everything that I feel is relevant and important for me to always remember. Such as the uses of incenses and herbs, candle magic, scrying, spells that I enjoy preforming or need to preform for protections or luck. I never use any form of dark magic or hexes, so my book will be absent of such. Rituals and ceremonies that I feel I need will be in there. I intend to copy down the Wiccan calender too.

I will also protect this book as well with spells and blessings. I want no negative energies to enter it at all. It may be called a Book of Shadows, but it does not need to be infected with the bad kind. The title of Book of Shadows is a bit of a misnomor. The book is not evil. I am sure there are dark Books of Shadows, but that is because of the person. If you do make a Book of Shadows, I suggest doing such protections as well.

I do have a separate set of books to keep track of my Oracle card readings (Oracle cards are simpler than Tarot cards, there are only 36 of them and their meaings are more open, a very nice beginner set for the new reader) and dream interpretations. A four volume set, and they will be included as part of my Book of Shadows, even if they do not share a cover.

What goes into your Book of Shadows is up to you, but be sure to find a book that suits you to use. Like many things in wicca, this is yet another thing that must call out to you and feel right to you. Your Book of Shadows should hold a piece of your spirit in it, something that is personally for you and no one else. And never share a Book of Shadows, unless you want to pass it down your own family line. I believe such things are meant for your blood only, that it should not be passed around. A Book of Shadows is something I believe is private.

Making your own Book of Shadows is not hard, it only takes a little time to find the right book, and a life of effort to fill it. But the effort is worth it.
